Have we not all done this at some point or another in our lives? I am talking about drawing a stamp on an envelope or a postcard and then sending it off, hoping the mail would be fooled. The restless Donald Evans created the most beautiful stamps. With a typewriter he’d type the ‘perforations’ with a series of … Then he painted wondrous miniature worlds in watercolors in this tiny framework. These are 8 stamps from the fictitious Amis et Amants. Salutation and Les Faveurs are my favorites. My books on Evans are still in the unorganized storage, so I can’t look up further details now. American born and raised, travelled widely but stuck in Holland unfortunately, where he died in a fire in his apartment in Amsterdam in 1977 at the age of just 32.
